A long-lasting relationship with our sister schools and an exposure to the innovative ideas of technology industry
The Liaoning Province Federation of Association organized a summer tour in collaboration with Tung Wah Group of Hospitals from 5/8 to 10/8, with Dr Liu Jianfeng, Deputy Director-General of Education, Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, as the Honorary Consultant. Led by the vice-chairperson of the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese and several members of the National Committee, 70 teachers and students from five TWGHs colleges participated in the exchange programme in order to explore the historical culture of the Liaoning Province.
Visit to the sister schools in Liaoning
Students were accompanied by teachers of the 5 colleges, including Ms. Leung Wan Fung, head of our Community Relations Unit, and Mr. Fok Ping Shan, our P.E. teacher. We paid visit to the two sister schools in Liaoning, Liaoning Province Shiyan High School and Shenyang No. 120 High School. At Liaoning Province Shiyan High School, we were honored to be guests under the hospitality of Principal Zhang, teachers and students from the school. Students went on for some ice-breaking games and we were invited to a luncheon, where we exchanged gifts and contacts. At Shenyang No. 120 High School, we were introduced by the teachers to the history of Northeast China.
Visit to hi-tech institutes
Since Liaoning is well-known for its development in heavy industries and many Hong Kong schools are developing their curriculum on STEM education, special arrangements were made to allow the teachers and students to visit Shenyang Aerospace University and the assembly lines of BMW Brilliance Automotive, which were normally inaccessible for normal tours. Students were able to witness the production of planes and vehicles, which enhanced their interest in STEM subjects.
Meeting with gold medalists and Peking opera singers
Furthermore, we paid visit to the local sports center to see some of the gold medalists and their coaches. Students were provided opportunities to attempt various sports under the guidance of the athletes. We also went to Shenyang Normal University to learn more about Peking opera and try the costumes.
Exploring the Benxi Water Caves
It was an extraordinarily hot summer in Liaoning this year. Our guides were concerned about our conditions and took us to Benxi Water Caves to cool ourselves. Benxi Water Caves is one of the most famous caves in China, with 2800m of its 5800m developed for tourism. We entered the tourist attraction by boats and enjoyed the cool air inside as it became one of our most memorable experiences.
